We are filming our opening sequence in two rooms at Beatrice Webb house.
The first scene we are filming takes place in the kitchen/tv room. We are building a fort in the middle of the room. For this we need to move the furniture out of the way in order to have space to build the fort.
Our second scene is being filmed in a Beatrice Webb girls boarding room. We are filming a girl getting a exorcism on the bed. In order to have more space around bed, we are going to move the desks around.
Here are the rooms after being moved around.
Meaning behind our props and set design
Instead of the original idea of being outside in a tent, we decided to make a blanket fort to give a childlike feel, as the girls in this part are relatively young. by using blankets and pillows, it creates a sense of comfort and this represents how the 2 girls feel about each other, as they are most themselves and comfortable when together. we are also using the colours of pink and blue from a sky light to represent youth and innocence since those colours are normally associated with babies. the scene is the girls first time hanging out as potential lovers so having the innocence of the colours shows that this is their first time with a girl lover. we are using fairy lights to create an magical sense of the relationship as it so new to them. the lights set the scene to give the illusion that everything is perfect which is counteracted later by the exorcism.
we are using crosses all around the room to obviously represent that the blonde girl is religious, it adds to the fact that the parents are trying to repel the gay in a very subtle way. they've added them as a caution and to make the daughter aware of their views, however, she ignores them as a rebel, so the exorcism is the parents stating they are in control. the other part of the set is the bed frame, as the blonde girl gets tied to it in preparation of the exorcism.
